This workshop takes place over four different dates. Participants must commit to attending all four sessions. Please note that this class is only open to NewsGuild of New York members in good standing. Refreshments will be served.
Learn the foundations of a great audio recording!
A two-week long workshop led by Headstepper Media's Pedro Rosado. Over the course of four sessions, you will learn how to script, host, record, and edit a podcast and then tie it all together by producing a podcast with your classmates.
Febraury 11th, 6-8pm: Development
Learn the basics of scripting and story during this two-hour session.
Febraury 13th, 6-8pm: Production
Learn how to record great sound and get tips on hosting during this two-hour session.
February 25th, 6-9pm: Post-Production
During this three-hour session, you'll learn the basics of editing and mixing using the free multitrack editor Audacity. Please note the longer duration of this session.
February 27th, 6-8pm: Practical
During the final two-hour session, you'll tie everything you've learned over the past two weeks together by reviewing the class' podcast episodes and discussing distribution through iTunes.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Pedro Rafael Rosado is the co-founder of HeadStepper Media, a digital production company that specializes in the creation of award-winning audio and video content for Web and mobile platforms with a focus on providing services for small news outlets and minority owned businesses. Most recently, Pedro was an audio producer at The New York Times tasked with making the long-running podcasts "Book Review" and "Popcast"and was also part of the team that produces the mega-hit "The Daily".
Prior to working for The Times, Pedro was a music producer and recording engineer for various organizations including Tommy Boy Records, Sesame Workshop and his own White Heron Records.
Previously at the "Gray Lady" Pedro was the Operations Manager for NYT Video, Technical Director for NYT Video, Editor and Senior Producer for New York Times Radio, and a News Technology Editor.
